Why you need a VPN on your computer
A VPN is a tool that encrypts all your internet traffic and routes it through a secure server. On a computer, this is especially relevant: you work with files, banking apps, and corporate systems. Without a VPN, any of these channels can be intercepted — especially on public Wi-Fi networks, on someone else's internet, or when using unsecured connections.
Imagine a typical situation: you're sitting in a café, connected to free Wi-Fi. At that moment, someone on the same network could intercept your data — logins, passwords, card numbers. A VPN solves this problem: all traffic is encrypted, and even if it's intercepted, it's impossible to decrypt without the key.
There are other situations where a VPN on a computer is simply necessary. For example, if you work from home and connect to a corporate network. Or if you're traveling and want to access content that isn't available from your current location. Or if your provider blocks certain resources — a VPN helps bypass such restrictions.
Plan B uses the AmneziaWG protocol — a modified version of WireGuard that better hides the very fact of VPN use. This matters because standard WireGuard is easily recognized by providers and blocked. AmneziaWG bypasses these restrictions without losing speed. The protocol disguises VPN traffic as regular HTTPS, so even a technically savvy network operator won't be able to tell that you're using a VPN.
Another important advantage of AmneziaWG is performance. The protocol works at the operating system kernel level, which ensures minimal latency and high data transfer speed. You'll practically not notice the difference between a direct connection and working through VPN, even when downloading large files or making video calls.
How to get a VPN configuration
Before installing a client, you need to get a configuration file. It's the access key to the Plan B VPN server. Without it, the client won't be able to establish a connection. The process of getting a config takes literally a minute.
Open Telegram and find the bot @paln_b_vpn_bot. Press "Start" or "Connect". The bot will offer to choose a plan and pay for the subscription. After payment, the bot will automatically create a configuration file and send it to you in the chat.
The configuration file has the .conf extension and contains all the necessary parameters for connecting: server address, encryption keys, ports, and other settings. You don't need to understand the file contents — just save it to your computer and import it into the client.
Important: the configuration file is the access key to your account. Don't share it with third parties and don't publish it publicly. If you suspect the file has been compromised, contact tech support to create a new config.
Which client to choose: AmneziaWG or ResultV
To set up a VPN on your computer, you'll need a client — a program that establishes and manages the connection. It's like a video call app, but instead of a call, it creates a secure data channel. Plan B offers two client options, and the choice depends on your tasks.
AmneziaWG is a client created specifically to work with the AmneziaWG protocol. It's as simple as possible: install, import the config, press the button — and everything works. You don't need to understand settings, encryption parameters, or routing. Everything is already configured optimally.
ResultV is a more advanced client that supports the same protocol but adds smart routing. With it, you can configure which apps and sites will work through the VPN and which ones directly. This is useful if you don't need to encrypt all traffic.

Tip: If you're setting up a VPN on your computer for the first time — start with AmneziaWG. It will take 3–5 minutes. You can connect ResultV later, when you understand exactly what you need.
Setting up AmneziaWG on Windows
Windows 10 and Windows 11 are fully supported. The installation process takes about 5 minutes and doesn't require special knowledge. Even if you've never installed a VPN before, you'll handle it without problems. Important: before installing, make sure you have a stable internet connection and enough disk space (the client needs no more than 50 MB).
Also pay attention to your Windows version. AmneziaWG officially supports Windows 10 (version 1903 and newer) and Windows 11. If you have an older version, it's recommended to update the system — this will also improve your computer's security level.
Get the configuration file
Open Telegram and find the bot @paln_b_vpn_bot. Press "Connect" and follow the instructions. The bot will automatically create a configuration file (.conf) for you — this is the key to VPN access. The file will be sent to you in the chat.
Download AmneziaWG
Go to the official AmneziaWG downloads page on GitHub:
github.com/amnezi-awg-windows-client/releases
Find the latest release and download the AmneziaWG_x.x.x_x64.msi file — this is the installer for the 64-bit version of Windows. If you have a 32-bit system, choose the file marked x86.
Install the client
Run the downloaded .msi file. Press "Next", then "Install". The installation takes 10–20 seconds. When it's done, press "Finish". AmneziaWG will automatically add an icon to the system tray (the cloud in the bottom right corner of the screen).
Import the configuration
Open AmneziaWG by clicking the icon in the tray. In the main window, press "Add tunnel" → "From file" and select the .conf file you received from the Telegram bot. The configuration will load into the client automatically.
Alternative method: You don't have to download the file — you can copy the configuration content from Telegram and paste it into AmneziaWG via "Add tunnel" → "Paste from clipboard". This is convenient if you don't want to save the file to disk or are working from a temporary device.
Connect
In the main window of AmneziaWG, you'll see the imported tunnel. Click it to activate. The status will change to "Connected", and the tray icon will turn green. All your internet traffic now goes through a secure channel.
To check that the VPN works, open any site and make sure it loads. You can also check your external IP address — it should change to the VPN server's address. To do this, open any online IP checking service, for example 2ip.ru or whatismyipaddress.com.
To turn off the VPN, just click the tunnel again. The status will return to "Disconnected". You can also set up auto-connect when Windows starts — in the AmneziaWG settings, enable the "Connect on system startup" option.
Setting up AmneziaWG on macOS
AmneziaWG is available for macOS 11 (Big Sur) and newer. The setup process on Mac is almost identical to Windows, but there are a few nuances related to the specifics of Apple's operating system. In particular, macOS is stricter about installing apps from third-party sources, so you may need to grant additional permissions.
There are two ways to install — via the App Store (recommended) or manually from GitHub. Both options work equally reliably, but the App Store is easier for most users, since the app is installed in the standard way and updates automatically.
Method 1: via the App Store (recommended)
Get the configuration
Just like on Windows — open the Telegram bot @paln_b_vpn_bot and get the configuration file.
Install from the App Store
Open the App Store and find "AmneziaWG". Press "Get" and install the app. This is the simplest way — the App Store updates the app automatically and verifies its security.
Import the configuration
Launch AmneziaWG. Press "Add tunnel" → "From file" and select the downloaded .conf file. Alternatively — copy the config content and paste it via "From clipboard".
Connect
Click the imported tunnel. On the first connection, macOS may ask for permission — press "Allow". The status will change to "Connected", and a VPN icon will appear in the menu bar.
Method 2: via GitHub (for advanced users)
Download the .dmg file
Go to the releases page: github.com/amnezia-vpn/amneziawg-windows-client/releases/latest. Download the AmneziaWG_x.x.x_aarch64.dmg file (for Apple Silicon chips) or x86_64.dmg (for Intel processors).
Install the app
Open the downloaded .dmg file. Drag the AmneziaWG icon to the Applications folder. This is the standard way to install apps on macOS.
Allow the launch
On the first launch, macOS will show a warning that the app was downloaded from the internet. Press "Open" in the dialog. If the window didn't appear, open System Settings → Privacy & Security and press "Allow" next to AmneziaWG.
Import and connect
The rest of the process is identical to the App Store method — add the configuration and click the tunnel to connect.
Which method to choose: The App Store is simpler and safer — updates are installed automatically. GitHub gives access to the latest version right after release. For most users, the App Store is the optimal choice.
ResultV: advanced setup with smart routing
If you need the VPN to work only for certain apps or sites, you need ResultV. This client supports smart routing, which lets you flexibly manage which traffic goes through the VPN and which goes directly.
Imagine you work from home. You need to connect to a corporate database through the VPN, but you don't want all your traffic — including YouTube, social networks, and updates — to go through the encrypted channel. ResultV solves this task: you specify only the apps and sites that need protection, and the rest of the traffic goes directly, without slowdown.
Another example is online games. Many game servers block VPN or significantly slow down connections through it. With ResultV, you can set up the game to work directly, while the browser and messengers go through the VPN. This gives you both security and good speed for games at the same time.
What is split tunneling
Split tunneling is the ability to choose which apps or sites use the VPN and which work without it. It's one of the most requested features among experienced users, because it combines VPN security with the high speed of a direct connection.
The principle is simple: the client analyzes network traffic and applies the rules you've set up. If an app or site is on the "through VPN" list, the traffic is encrypted and goes through a secure server. If it's on the "direct" list, the traffic goes the usual way, without encryption.
Examples of using split tunneling:
- The browser works through the VPN, while messengers work directly
- Online banking and corporate apps go through the VPN, while YouTube works without it
- Certain sites open through the VPN, the rest of the traffic goes directly
This is useful when you don't want to slow down the entire connection for access to a specific resource, or when some services don't work through VPN and need to be "bypassed".
When you should use ResultV
- You work with corporate systems that require a direct connection to certain resources
- You play online games and don't want latency when connecting to game servers
- You use streaming services that get blocked when the VPN is on
- You need part of the traffic to go through the VPN and part directly, for speed reasons
- You work with multiple accounts in different services and want to separate their traffic
- It matters to you that calling apps work directly to minimize latency
Setting up ResultV
Get the configuration
As with AmneziaWG — open the Telegram bot @paln_b_vpn_bot and download the configuration file. The config is compatible with both clients — AmneziaWG and ResultV use the same format. This means you can start with AmneziaWG and then switch to ResultV without contacting the bot again.
Download ResultV
Download the client from the official ResultV website. Versions for Windows and macOS are available. The installation is standard — follow the installer's instructions. On Windows, the process takes 10–20 seconds, on macOS — a bit longer due to the system security check. After installation, ResultV will appear in the system tray (Windows) or the menu bar (macOS).
Import the configuration
Open ResultV and import the configuration file — exactly like in AmneziaWG: "Add tunnel" → "From file" or via the clipboard. The config will be recognized automatically.
Set up smart routing
In the ResultV settings, find the "Smart Routing" or "Split Tunneling" section. Here you can:
- Add apps that will work through the VPN
- Specify sites that should be opened through the secure channel
- Set up exclusion rules — apps or sites that should work directly
The settings apply immediately — no need to restart the app. You can change the rules at any time, even during an active connection.
Connect
Press the connect button. ResultV will automatically apply the routing rules and route traffic through the VPN only for the specified apps and sites. The rest of the traffic will go directly. You can check how much traffic goes through the VPN in the connection monitor — active tunnels will be displayed there.
Important: ResultV works only with AmneziaWG configurations. If you already have a working config for AmneziaWG, it will also work for ResultV without changes.
Examples of split tunneling rules
Let's look at a few practical scenarios so you better understand how smart routing works in ResultV.
Scenario 1: Working from home. You're a remote employee and need to connect to a corporate VPN to access internal resources. But at the same time, you don't want YouTube, Spotify, and system updates to go through the VPN — that would slow them down. In ResultV, you add only the corporate apps to the "through VPN" list, and everything else works directly.
Scenario 2: Streaming and gaming. You want to watch Netflix through the VPN to access another region, but you also play online games where every millisecond of latency matters. In ResultV, you set Netflix to work through the VPN, and the game client — directly.
Scenario 3: Traveling. You're on a trip and using public Wi-Fi. You need to safely work with your bank and email, but don't want to slow down downloading movies on your tablet. Bank and email — through the VPN, everything else — directly.

Solving problems
Even with a correct setup, problems sometimes occur. That's normal — VPN technology depends on many factors: the network state, operating system settings, antivirus software, and even the provider. Below we'll cover the most common problems and their solutions.
Important: before solving problems, make sure you've downloaded the latest version of the client and are using a fresh configuration file. Old versions may not support new server parameters, and outdated configs may contain revoked access keys.
AmneziaWG won't connect
This is the most common problem, and it's usually solved in a couple of minutes. Here's a step-by-step diagnostic algorithm:
Check the configuration
Make sure the configuration file isn't corrupted. Try getting a new config through the Telegram bot and importing it again. Old configs may expire.
Check your internet connection
The VPN can't connect without a base internet connection. Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi or mobile internet.
Temporarily disable the antivirus
Some antiviruses (especially Kaspersky, ESET) block VPN connections. Try temporarily disabling the antivirus and connecting. If that helped — add AmneziaWG to the antivirus exceptions.
Check DNS
Try changing DNS to a public one. On Windows: Settings → Network & internet → Change adapter options → right-click on the connection → Properties → Internet Protocol Version 4 → Properties → enter 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8.
VPN connects, but the internet doesn't work
This problem is less common but raises the most questions. You see that the VPN is connected (the icon is green), but pages don't open. Here's what to do:
Restart the tunnel
Turn off the VPN, wait 5 seconds, and connect again. This often solves the problem.
Check DNS queries
On Windows, open the command prompt (Win + R → cmd) and run nslookup google.com. If there's no response — the problem is DNS. Try changing DNS as described above.
Try another config
Get a new config through the Telegram bot — maybe the old server is overloaded or unavailable.
Problems on macOS
macOS has its own quirks that can affect VPN operation. Here are the most common problems and their solutions:
macOS blocks the app
If you installed AmneziaWG via GitHub, open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Security → press "Allow" next to AmneziaWG.
The tray icon doesn't appear
Restart the app. If the icon still doesn't appear — restart your Mac. In rare cases, macOS requires a restart after installing a new VPN client.
Wi-Fi disconnects when connecting to VPN
This can happen if "Private Wi-Fi Address" is enabled. Go to System Settings → Network → Wi-Fi → Details → turn off "Private Wi-Fi Address".
Didn't help? Write to Plan B tech support through the Telegram bot. Describe your problem, the OS version, and what exactly happens when you try to connect. We'll help you sort it out.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use one config on several devices?
One profile can be imported on several devices, but it can't be used simultaneously. The limit of simultaneous connections depends on the plan and is indicated on its card. For parallel work from several devices, separate profiles are needed — you don't need to buy a separate subscription for each device.
Does the speed drop when using VPN?
AmneziaWG uses the WireGuard protocol, which works at the kernel level of the operating system. The speed loss is 5–15% in most cases. On local servers, the difference is unnoticeable even when streaming video in high quality. When connecting to remote servers (for example, from Russia to Europe), the speed loss can be larger — up to 20–30%. If speed is critical, choose a geographically close server or use split tunneling in ResultV to route only the needed traffic through the VPN.
Is VPN safe for working with banking apps?
Yes. VPN encrypts all traffic, including banking app data. This is safer than working over unsecured Wi-Fi without VPN. Banking apps use their own encryption, and VPN adds an extra layer of protection. If traffic is intercepted, an attacker will only see encrypted data, which can't be decrypted without the key.
Can anyone tell that I'm using VPN?
AmneziaWG modifies the WireGuard protocol parameters so that VPN traffic looks like regular HTTPS. The provider can't detect the fact of VPN use by standard methods. This is the main difference between AmneziaWG and regular WireGuard, which is easily recognized by its characteristic data packets. AmneziaWG masks the protocol metadata, making traffic indistinguishable from a regular HTTPS connection to any website.
What to do if the VPN gets blocked?
AmneziaWG was designed specifically to bypass blocks. If the connection fails — try getting a new config through the Telegram bot. The bot will automatically provide access through an alternative server. Also try switching between Wi-Fi and mobile internet — sometimes the block only applies at the level of a specific provider. If the problem persists, write to tech support — we'll help you pick a working configuration.
Do I need to turn off VPN when quitting apps?
No. VPN works at the system level, not for individual apps. When the VPN is on, all of your computer's traffic goes through the secure channel. You can freely open and close apps — the VPN will keep working in the background. Turn off the VPN only when you really don't need it, or if problems arise with a specific service.
Can VPN slow down my computer?
AmneziaWG works at the kernel level of the operating system and consumes minimal resources. In normal mode, it uses no more than 1–2% of the CPU and a few megabytes of RAM. You won't notice any impact on your computer's performance, even when working with resource-heavy apps. The only exception — if your internet connection is very slow, then the VPN may add a slight latency due to traffic routing.
What happens if the config expires?
If the configuration file has expired, the VPN won't be able to connect. You'll see a connection error. The solution is simple: open the Telegram bot @paln_b_vpn_bot and get a new config. It takes literally a minute. The new config will automatically replace the old one in the client — just import it over the existing one.
